Bafang error codes
The display shows the fault as a two-character code, blinking on some models, and several displays store the last ten faults. What a code means depends on the display model: CAN displays and older UART displays partly use different numbers.
Trolda cannot read Bafang motors yet. The code list is here to help you anyway.
No code matches. Check that you typed it exactly as the display shows it.
CAN displays (2019–2022)
| Code | Part | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 04 | Throttle | Throttle fault, or the throttle isn’t back at zero (Bafang’s sources disagree) |
| 05 | Throttle | Throttle fault, or the throttle isn’t back at zero (Bafang’s sources disagree) |
| 09 | Motor | Fault in the motor windings (phases), so the motor stops |
| 11 | Motor | The motor’s temperature sensor is faulty |
| 14 | Temperature | The controller (the motor’s electronics) is too hot and cuts out |
| 15 | Motor | The controller’s temperature sensor is faulty |
| 27 | Motor | Current in the controller is too high |
| 33 | Brake | The brake switch signal is wrong (only bikes with brake switches) |
| 35 | Motor | An internal 15 V circuit in the controller is failing |
| 36 | Display | Fault in the button circuit, often because the power button is held at start-up |
| 37 | Motor | The controller’s safety circuit (watchdog) is failing |
| 38 | Sensor | The sensor’s safety circuit is failing |
| 41 | Battery | The battery voltage is too high |
| 42 | Battery | The battery voltage is too low |
| 43 | Battery | The battery cells are delivering too much power |
| 44 | Battery | A single battery cell has too high a voltage |
| 45 | Battery | The battery is too hot |
| 46 | Battery | The battery is too cold |
| 47 | Battery | The battery management system (BMS) reports too high a charge level |
| 48 | Battery | The battery management system (BMS) reports too low a charge level |
| 49 | Battery | A single battery cell drops too low in voltage during use (batteries with smart BMS) |
| 4C | Battery | Too big a voltage difference between the battery cells (batteries with smart BMS) |
| 61 | Gears | The electronic shifter isn’t registering the gear change |
| 62 | Gears | The electronic rear derailleur won’t release |
| 71 | Lock | The electronic lock is stuck |
| 81 | Display | The display’s Bluetooth module is failing |
Older UART display (DP C18.UART)
| Code | Part | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 03 | Brake | The brake switch reports the brake is on, so the motor won’t assist |
| 22 | Communication | Communication with the battery management system (BMS) is failing |
| Code | Part | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 07 | Battery | Voltage in the system is too high, so the motor stops |
| 08 | Motor | Wrong signal from the motor’s position sensor (Hall sensor) |
| 10 | Temperature | The motor is too hot and cuts out |
| 12 | Motor | Current measurement in the controller (the motor’s electronics) is failing |
| 13 | Battery | The battery’s temperature sensor is faulty |
| 21 | Speed sensor | Wheel speed isn’t being measured |
| 25 | Torque sensor | The pedal force signal is missing or wrong |
| 26 | Cadence sensor | The pedalling signal from the sensor is wrong |
| 30 | Communication | The display and motor can’t connect to each other |
